Enjoy the Good Life
Outdoor beauty and recreation
Northern Michigan has been a vacation destination for nearly two centuries, fueled by its natural beauty and the ability to enjoy outdoor recreation activities year-round. Extensive state and national forests and an abundance of lakes and rivers make this one of the most scenic areas in our state.
Rich and vibrant history
Area history is compelling and can be witnessed at many sites, including Petoskey’s Underwater Crucifix, various shipwrecks and forts, and Mackinac Island. Experience an Odawa Pow Wow, visit Colonial Michilimackinac or visit the Little Traverse and Harbor Springs History Museums.
Small towns, big communities
Northern Michigan towns are small, but the communities have big hearts, and once you immerse yourself in our local culture, you understand why. Many tell the story of how they visited once, then made our area their permanent home.
Top-notch public, private, and charter schools
In 2022 the US News and World Report placed several northern Michigan schools in the top 200 in the state, including Harbor Springs, Charlevoix, Petoskey, East Jordan, Gaylord, and Boyne City. We boast North Central Michigan College, a highly rated community college that works with local high schools to offer students early college credits, and many schools offer sports programs that include golf and skiing.
